Kurz gesagt: That depends less on the price than on how the flag is used. The same flag can last several years in a sheltered location and be frayed after just one season in an exposed spot. You have the greatest influence yourself – over the time the fabric spends flying.
| Use | Typical lifespan | Hintergrund |
|---|---|---|
| Only for occasions (festivals, holidays, receptions) | many years | Few hours of wind exposure per year; storage tends to be the limiting factor here. |
| Flown on working days, sheltered location | about 1 to 2 years | Regular but moderate wind; taken down at night and during storms. |
| Flown permanently, exposed location | often just one season | Constant flapping at the fly end, full UV exposure. |
| Exposed: hilltop, coast, open area | teils wenige Monate | High wind speeds and constant load changes. |
Practical experience from our own work – not a guaranteed property. The actual lifespan depends on location, weather and care.
What helps most costs nothing: take it down before storms, take it down at night, pause over winter. A flag that only flies half the time lasts significantly more than twice as long – because it is precisely the extreme hours that cause the damage. Practical guide: Taking down and storing a flag.
A cheap flag that lasts one season is more expensive than a solid one that lasts three years – and it looks worse most of the time. For club, company and municipal flags, there is also the fact that a frayed flag creates a worse impression than no flag at all.
The statutory warranty covers material and workmanship defects – such as a seam that fails to hold from the outset. Normal wear from wind and UV, on the other hand, is not a defect. Get in touch if a flag fails unusually early.
With the same use, yes – but the difference made by use is greater than the difference made by price.
As long as only the fly end is affected: yes. A tailor will shorten and re-hem it; the flag becomes slightly narrower in the process. After two repairs, that is usually the end of it.
The care label on your flag is what applies. Printed and embroidered versions may have different care instructions.
