The maypole, also known as the guild pole, has been a tradition since the 16th century. The pictorial symbols and "Taferl" boards bearing the guild emblems of the various local craftsmen were only added in the 18th century, and are mostly maintained by associations of local craftspeople and clubs.
At the May Day dance or the guild festival, the maypole or guild pole is lowered to the ground and decorated with the wreath and the guild emblems of the local craft businesses and clubs. Then comes the task of hauling the pole, adorned with all its boards and the wreath, back from the horizontal into the vertical.
Early literature records that guild poles were first erected around 1585 in the Westphalia region. Today they stand again in many federal states, with the tradition of the "maypole" certainly strongest in Bavaria.
Guild pole / maypole as a symbol of village community.
Happily, there are still a number of municipalities and towns with a strong sense of tradition, so that the guild pole or maypole not only presents part of the local crafts and trades but also serves as a symbol of (village) community.
On request we can manufacture poles such as gaff masts. The gaff is a spar attached to the mast and angled upwards. The gaff sail is set between the boom below and the gaff above. You will find a detailed description of gaff masts here.
Yes, we can provide pre-installed cabling for your camera mast, which is excellently suited to monitoring buildings, public spaces, correctional facilities and other industrial projects.
below we briefly introduce our new flag fabric SFS Meshpoly. Material: SFS Meshpoly, 110 g/m², high-grade knitted polyester, 100% branded polyester, special polyester mesh with increased wind permeability. Finishing: standard would be heading tape + carabiners, or eyelets, or rope + rope loop on the pole side, all other edges unhemmed, hot-cut only. For outrigger poles, of course, e.g. with a hollow hem of heading tape along the top edge. Printing: ideally suited to both screen printing and digital printing of flags. Use: flags, banners, tensioned banners etc. outdoors in high-wind zones. This fabric is gradually replacing the 155 g/m² woven spun polyester flag fabric. With almost 50% air permeability, the service life of the flags increases. This achieves usability similar to spun polyester – but with several further advantages: - knitted, not woven, so it does not soak up rain, stays light and flies freely - the perforated structure with unhemmed edges prevents fraying and looks better - perfect print results, no loss of detail when viewed on the flagpole - also ideal for use with beach flags
Yes, poles can be powder-coated entirely to your own specifications. We will gladly prepare a quote for this.
